Triangular Dovetail Joint Microbox

Triangular Dovetail Joint Microbox

The concept for this originated from Thing 11977, but the design is entirely new. It features an impossible dovetail joint that opens through rotation. My key observation was that it requires almost no thickness or core to lock and rotate effectively. Essentially, it's a small empty container. Consequently, this prints quickly on our MakerGear M2 - it prints even better when scaled up 2X. Two versions are provided as STL files: one with the University of Kentucky logo on one side and the department name (ECE) on the other, and another plain version. The logo version was manufactured in bulk and distributed to EDay Open House attendees at our lab; interestingly, we encountered no issues fitting pieces together that were printed on either of two MakerGear M2 and one Wanhao I3.
