Trench 2 (end of excavation)

Trench 2 (end of excavation)

Trench 2 was opened, measuring 2.00 meters by 2.00 meters, just a few meters south of Trench 1. The trench crossed two large stone blocks that matched the dimensions of Illyrian stone masonry, and we wanted to determine if they might be the top of a buried wall. Like Trench 1, it eventually became unsafe to continue digging down, so excavation stopped here. This trench clearly shows how much soil has buried the old village of Nivica. Both walls may have originated from small houses that once existed on the Kala. Check out the other layers here. This is a low-resolution version of the models used by the project for archaeological research. Higher resolution versions are available upon request.
