Trench 1 (end of excavation)

Trench 1 (end of excavation)

Trench 1 (1.00 m x 1.50 m) was excavated to confirm if the wall identified by Hammond as Illyrian continued across the plateau, or Kala. It was also hoped that some datable material would be discovered to support and verify Hammond's hypothesis. This marks the end of archaeological excavation at this site, as it became clear that the bottom layer (natural geology) lies much deeper than would be safe to excavate. A plastic sheet was placed over this layer, and the trench was refilled. This allows us to quickly remove the infill with proper equipment and continue where we left off. View the other layers here. This is a basic representation of the models used by the project for archaeological research. Higher-quality versions are available upon request.
