Tremolite
sketchfab
Tremolite is a vital part of the amphibole group of silicate minerals. Tremolite emerges as a result of metamorphism that involves sediments rich in dolomite and quartz. Tremolite forms a significant series with actinolite and ferro-actinolite. Pure magnesium tremolite boasts a creamy white appearance, but its color shifts to dark green as iron content increases. It exhibits a hardness on the Mohs scale of 5 to 6. Nephrite, one of the two minerals that comprise the gemstone jade, is a green variety of tremolite. The fibrous form of tremolite is classified as one of the six recognized types of asbestos. This material poses a significant health risk and inhaling its fibers can lead to serious conditions such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and both pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma. Fibrous tremolite has been found to contaminate vermiculite, chrysotile (a type of asbestos), and talc.
