Holiday Tree Mobile

A holiday decoration of green trees, yellow stars and red hearts that is suspended from a rod to turn freely in the air. Inspired by a paper mobile I assembled over 30 years ago that has hung every holiday. The paper color has faded a lot so I recreated it for my 3D printer.

Happy Holidays

404 Error on the package download?

thingiverse is broke Please download the individual .stl or .obj files depending on your preference.

4 files needed for complete model.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

FlashForge

Printer:

Adventurer 3

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

No

Resolution:

.2

Infill:

100% LIne

Filament: GizmoDorks, Sunlu PLA Green, Red, Yellow, Clear

Notes:

Printed at .2 layer height, 100% infill, 4mm nozzle on a clean calibrated bed with glue stick to help prevent warping.
Assembly requires 6 of the 2 piece trees, 3 hearts, 1 large star and 5 small stars plus the 3 rod pieces.
You can skip the "rod" if you have a dowel or other type stick to use for the hanger.

Make larger or smaller mobiles by adding or removing pieces. 4 additional trees, 4 stars and 3 hearts can complete another row.

Post-Printing

Assembly required

I used super glue with accelerator to attach the left and right end pieces to the middle rod.

Putting together this mobile, tying each piece at the right height is a lesson in patience if you're using very fine string or thread. A tiny needle or a needle threader is required to get the sting threw the holes on each of the pieces. Upholstery thread works best or heavy fishing line if you're good at tying knots in it.

On all pieces the thread hole allowed for my smallest needle to pass through.

Glue is only required on the "rod" but can be on the thread at the holes to keep the pieces at the correct height without many knots.

How I Designed This

Inkscape and Tinckercad

Size and connect various solids and holes until the shapes appear.

The hearts, stars and rod were all TinkerCad object the tree silhouette was free clipart from the internet. I set height and size then duplicate and cut slits and holes as needed in each half,

Category: Decor
