Section of fossilized tree fern Tempskya wesselli unearthed in Idaho during the Cretaceous period. Tempskya belongs to an extinct family of ferns known as Tempskyaceae, where true wood production is impossible for ferns. The "trunk" of Tempskya comprises multiple slender stems (visible as circular patterns on one side of this specimen) entwined by roots. This specimen originates from the paleobotanical archives of the School of Integrative Plant Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Measuring approximately 8.5 cm in length is its longest dimension. The model was crafted by Emily Hauf.
