Tree Branch Shaper
thingiverse
I want to create some intricate designs by shaping tree branches. To achieve this, I need a way to hold the branches in place for an extended period while they grow together. This requires a tool that can sustainably support the branches without causing any damage. To meet this requirement, I designed a device that fits perfectly onto a standard tree stake (50mm/2in diameter). The device is screwed onto the stake at the right spot, and then the branches are laid into the little cross-shaped holder. This holder is adjustable in both vertical orientations, allowing for flexibility in its usage. Once the branches are positioned within the holder, there are strategically placed holes that can be used to pass string or tree tie wire through them, securing the branches firmly in place on the device. As the branches grow and mature over time, this setup will provide the necessary support to bend them into the desired shape gradually. I printed the design using PETG at a layer thickness of 0.2mm. To ensure successful printing, I employed supports for specific curved areas that were challenging to print without them. Although the amount of support required was minimal, it's essential to note that ABS might be a better choice for this project due to its superior heat resistance. This is particularly relevant given my current environment's high temperature (115°F) and potential impact on the printed device.
