Tree at the Place Vendôme, Paris

"Tree" was a massive inflatable spectacle that burst onto Place Vendôme in Paris on October 19th, 2014. Masterminded by Paul McCarthy, this colossal art installation depicted a Christmas tree to raise awareness about the impending holiday season. However, it received mixed reviews due to its unconventional take on the traditional Christmas tree design; just days after its unveiling, it was deflated and damaged by vandals. In response, McCarthy declined to reinstall it, and it has since been removed from the square. Meanwhile, a poignant quote from Monsieur le Président echoes on: "France would plummet into decline if it refused to be itself, if it feared the future, feared the world," he told AFP. Fortunately, Scan The World brought it back to life by creating a downloadable miniature version of "Tree". This object is part of the "Scan The World" initiative, a non-profit project launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to build a digital library of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe. Scan The World is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items nearby and want to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can participate.
