I crafted this intricately panelled chest to hone my gilding skills, breaking it down into numerous components that require assembly using super glue. I highly recommend Gorilla Superglue Gel for this task. # Components ### Base and frame 1 x base plate 2 x box face panels (figure of 8 shaped pieces serving as the front and back frames) 4 x cross bars (small, fiddly pieces) 1 x lid base panel (an open rectangular frame) 2 x lid side panels (semi-circular frames) 1 x lid centre beam (a simple arch) ### Panels 2 x face panels (large rectangles) 2 x side panels (small rectangles) 2 x lid side panels (semicircular) 1 x lid top panel (roof-shaped) # Assembly Attach the two large figure of 8 shaped frames and secure them with three cross bars at any three corners. You will attach the fourth one later, once the panels are in place. If you plan to paint the parts, do it now. Insert the two large rectangular panels, possibly requiring sanding the edges for a smooth fit. Next, install the two smaller side panels before attaching the fourth cross bar. This completes the bottom half of the chest, which should fit snugly into the base. Depending on tolerances, you may need to sand or glue it in place. For the lid, start by gluing the semicircular side frames onto the curved panel. Then attach the last two panels. Carefully secure the base of the lid and the lid centre beam in place. The model is now complete, requiring only a hinge to be sorted out.
