Traxxas X-Maxx CVD boot adapters
thingiverse
These adapters enable you to install CVD boots designed for HPI Baja on X-Maxx. This allows you to grease the CVDs and prevent them from wearing out excessively. The adapters also look great and can withstand rigorous use. UPD2: I have been testing these adapters for 20-30 packs, and all of them are functioning properly except for one that I assembled incorrectly. It slid off the CVD cup and got torn instantly while hanging loose. UPD3: I added a retainer to attach boots to stub axles. To do this, you will need twelve M2.5x5 screws, a 2mm drill bit, and an M2.5 tap. Use the smallest head screws available and make sure not to drill holes too close to the edge, as this may cause the retainer to rub against the bearing. Perform a dry fit test before drilling, and then cut and glue the axle boot. Drill through one hole in the retainer and tap it, followed by screwing it into place. The boots that go over stub axles require cutting and gluing to retainers, as seen in the photo. It's essential to perform a dry fit test to ensure a proper fit. Leave approximately 3mm of edge on the inside or 5mm on the outside when cutting the boot, as excessive removal will result in a poor fit. To make space for the retainer, you'll need to cut some plastic off stock axle carriers. If your vehicle is equipped with RPM on the rear, you only need to perform this step on the front axle. A significant component that should be glued to the drive cup has never been printed, so I have taken a different approach using aluminum pipe (which requires considerable work). You'll need to print four small parts per axle and glue them in pairs over the axle without touching the metal. Then, pull the boots over them. It's also crucial to apply Loctite or super glue to the Traxxas CVD pin on the aluminum stub axle. This will prevent wear since it pivots around a steel-to-steel joint instead of a steel-to-aluminum connection, and it will also stop grease from escaping through the gap. The CVD axle grease plug is an optional component that plugs the inside of the axle boot. There's a large empty area there where grease can escape, rather than lubricating the joint. Simply push it in far enough to prevent the dogbone from rubbing against it.
