Traxxas X-Maxx center shaft cover
thingiverse
So, the X-Maxx's steel spur and pinion need lubrication, but they tend to run dry. To fix this issue, the problem lies in the hole at the bottom where the center driveshaft passes through. I designed a small part that's intended to sit down there, glued with silicone, to seal off that hole. Unfortunately, due to limited space, it doesn't fit perfectly with the 54t (big) spur gear. However, it fits seamlessly with the 46t spur and likely will work well with the 50t one as well. Once you've got a compatible spur in place, you can fill the area with grease or manual transmission oil for optimal results - the high RPMs those gears operate at demand oil over grease to keep them running smoothly. To seal everything off completely, apply silicone around all edges. I've printed this part but haven't installed it yet; I'm waiting on a new spur gear before doing so.
