Traxxas Slash Tie Bar
thingiverse
I recently had my tie bar destroyed in a violent crash and couldn't find an identical replacement at my local hobby shop. Not wanting to wait for an online order, I decided to take matters into my own hands and head straight to the printer. Given concerns that an exact replica made from ABS or PLA might not be strong enough, I beefed up the design surrounding the mounting holes. This modification fits my Slash perfectly, although the holes are slightly undersized once printed in PLA and required a bit of reaming with a round file to match the design's oversized specifications. I left some space for inserting the C-clip, but ultimately decided to pass the pins through from the front and attach the clip to the rear. The fit is spot on - time will tell how well it holds up to repeated impacts. UPDATE: Unfortunately, my PLA print did not hold up under pressure, although I should note that the car collided with a mailbox post at speeds exceeding 30mph. As such, I designed and printed the shock tower as an added precautionary measure. My aggressive driving habits probably had something to do with it (I'm sure of it), but I managed to break the tie bar again - this time made from ABS. In response, I uploaded a V2 design with added reinforcement where it tends to thin out. It should fit just as well as the original and can be assembled by passing the pins through the bulkhead and tie bar before securing them with C-clips.
