Traxxas Slash 4x4 LCG Dual Motor Mount
thingiverse
I tried building a dual VXL setup after watching a video about one. Currently, it uses a single Mamba Monster 2 motor with 2650kv, but I plan to test it with two VXL motors once I get another motor plate and maybe two more Mamba Monsters for even higher speed. This project is just a proof of concept and ideally would be made from aluminum like in the first few pictures. The setup uses stock mounting holes and screws, but you'll need to cut out some plastic on the chassis for the second motor mount, move the battery around and find space for another speed controller. A second motor plate is attached with reverse mounting, additional screws, and a locknut. You will also need two shoulder screws for the motor mount. MAKE SURE YOUR MOTOR SCREW IS VERY TIGHT because it can strip easily. I added a mount for the stock bearing and a 10x19x5mm bearing variant too. The bearings are available from traxxas or here cheaper: http://www.kingheads.com/product_info.php?products_id=934 UPDATE 05/05/15: I've updated the design to allow for two motors with a reverse mount on one side. UPDATE 06/16/15: A friend of mine has given me a machined aluminum version. We will do some tests soon and compare the dual VXL's performance to a single Mamba Monster 2. FINAL UPDATE 06/27/15: After testing, I realized that two VXLs still perform worse than a single MM2 motor even when the system is properly made from aluminum. To fix this issue, you might need to secure your batteries better with the VG racing chassis brace, using zip ties or something similar in this case, but keep in mind these broke on impact during testing. However, I found one other thing which was very problematic - when calibrating both escs simultaneously and not at different times, neither braking nor neutral throttle would be present even after several calibration sessions. This issue still needs a solution from users that have tried using a dual vxl motor setup. In addition to this the biggest issue with using 2 VXL motors over MM2 was that it significantly added extra weight during operation due to larger number of components in total. My test configurations look like this: Dual VXL Two Venom batteries are being used together (parallel), with each weighing in at a combined 5400mah rating on the 3s lipo pack and both also using the stock pinion gears which allow speeds above sixty miles per hour but are known to last quite well. MM2 In contrast to this setup we only used 2x 2650mah batteries on their own, and each had a total voltage capacity of 4s in addition to what you see there (a NanoTech battery pack), with both setups using their respective 13t pinion and the spurs respectively had a 40 t setting Please do ask any further questions about these configurations
