Travertine serves as the classic construction stone, ideal for facing and paving. Calcareous alabaster is used in polished slabs and as decorative objects. Essential minerals: Calcite or Aragonite, often accompanied by Limonite impurities. Non-essential minerals: frequent fossils and imprints, especially of plants, may be present; minor amounts of clays can also be found.
