Description: Travertine is primarily composed of Calcite; fine-scale banding of browns, grays, whites, and pink of very fine-grained to no visible crystals of Calcite. It's the classic construction stone for facing and paving. Calcareous alabaster is used in polished slabs and as ornamental objects. Essential Minerals: Calcite or Aragonite, with Limonite impurities. Non-essential minerals include frequent fossils and imprints, especially of plants.
