Trash Can - Garden Hose Adapter for Rain Water Recuperation
thingiverse
This is an adapter I built to water my garden using water collected in generic plastic trash cans. Those specialized water recovery containers with taps are too expensive for me, so I opted for two trash cans at 67c each - what a deal! This model does require some elbow grease, though. The adapter is designed to fit inside the trash can, at the base, and have the hose fitting protrude through a hole. It's screwed from the outside with four to eight screws. Why so complicated? Water pressure pushes stuff out of the bin, so with the part inside, it's pressed against the surface and helps seal the holes. I could have screwed it from the inside, but that would be more cumbersome, and I'd need washers and nuts. Incidentally, you should ideally tap the screw holes. That was my intention when designing it. You could just screw right into it without tapping, but I wouldn't feel confident not cracking the part.
