Trapezoid Screw Thread Module: Extrude-Transform Polygons

Trapezoid Screw Thread Module: Extrude-Transform Polygons

thingiverse

JelleAtProtospace suggested the use of trapezoid screw threads for creating drivenuts in leadscrew threaded rods commonly found in CNC machines. This modification is valuable and relatively simple to implement, although initially it may seem daunting to modify the polyhedron command at the core of the module, which involves adding new vertices and ensuring the correct winding order. However, practice makes it easier over time. The advantage of this method is that it generates trapezoid screw threads following any set of equations, some of which could have practical applications like making springs. Additionally, as it directly generates triangles via polyhedron command, it's fast and lightweight. The code is clean and easy to explore, compiles quickly, making experiments a breeze. If there's enough interest, a library version could be created. Check out the GitHub repository for more information: github.com/syvwlch/Thingiverse-Projects/tree/master/ExtrudePolygon
