Transmission between three shafts (NO GEARS)
thingiverse
Intrigued by the concept of shafting without gears, I created a working model of the Unique 1884 Patented Almond Coupling For Shafting. Check out here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3413776 Then I discovered a beautifully designed **three axes** design on GrabCAD by Nal. Check out here: https://grabcad.com/library/transmission-between-three-shafts-transmission-entre-trois-axes-1 For sure this is a fictional transmission and you can animate everything, but I wanted to check if it would actually work, so I made this 3D printable proof of concept. Surprise surprise, it functions! It's mesmerizing to watch and study the movements. Also, I tried to make it look nice and easy to hold on. You can easily open and close the Carter. Maybe this is a great object for students to work out all the different loads and forces. The print is not that hard. Please note that the pistons had to be printed inside the crank. It's a print in a print. In your slicer program, position the piston upright (on the flat spot) in the middle of the crack. There should be enough clearance in the design for most printer setups. Have fun with it! Please give likes, shares, makes, and let me know if you use it for educational purposes.
