Translucent Snowflake Ornament

This spherical Christmas ornament features the recursive snowflake design from thing:35439, with an opening at its base for light insertion. The snowflake is bent to fit a sphere, while the 1.5mm-thick walls are inscribed 1mm deep into its surface. A light of appropriate frequency inside outlines the snowflake through the 0.5mm-thick wall. An blue ABS ornament (Helsinki Sky from Makerbot) is shown with a LED coaster, working well with blue and green LEDs but not red or yellow ones. Similar results can be achieved with natural ABS ornaments in various colors; a red ABS ornament, for instance, illuminates well with red LEDs but not blue or green ones. The ornaments are printed on a Replicator at 1 shell and 5% infill, directly onto the build surface, weighing approximately 16 grams and measuring 70mm in diameter.
