TRAIN TRACKS COMPATIBLE WITH LEGO® TRAIN TRACKS
thingiverse
I designed a set of train tracks compatible with LEGO battery powered trains to offer more flexibility. My goal was to create curved pieces in various radii and lengths, shorter straight pieces, and a 67.5 degree crossing. - Straight tracks are identified by the number of ties. - Curved track pieces are identified by radius in LEGO dots and equivalent ties at R40. - Crossings are identified by the crossing angle. These prints well with either PLA or ABS. If you have a smaller print bed, try rotating the pieces 30 or 45 degrees to make them fit. I recommend printing at "High Quality" or "Fine" mode (<=0.15mm resolution) for accurate dots and a nice snap action with other track pieces. Print without support - support for the rail ends is built into the design. These support pieces will snap off easily by gripping them with pliers. For standard LEGO train elements, it's probably more economical to buy them instead of printing unless you have filament on sale or want to finish a roll. A good source of information about LEGO track geometry is at l-gauge.org/wiki/index.php/Welcome_to_L-Gauge. Update 12/10/2019: I made small tweaks for better snap action and print results, and added longer straight track sections. Update 10/24/2019: I hollowed out the bottoms of rails and most ties so you can connect pieces below. Update 5/19/2019: I added narrow R24 and R32 curves on request. I don't know if Lego trains can actually navigate such sharp curves. Update 2/17/2019: I tweaked a couple of dimensions to address feedback about the dots being too small, the top of the rails being too high, and improved snap action. I also corrected a design mistake at one rail end which made it easier to print, and included snap-off support for overhangs.
