Traditional Marudai for Kumihimo ( Japanese Braid )
thingiverse
A marudai (丸台 marudai) meaning "round stand" is the most common of traditional frames used for making kumihimo, a type of Japanese braid. The original Marudai disk (kagami) has 3mm thickness, but I did a 2mm version if you want to print faster and use less material. You can build the Marudai in several ways: 1. Print the Marudai disk, the Base, and 4 legs if you have a big printer and don't worry about time or material. 2. Print only the Marudai disk and make the Base and legs in real wood. 3. Build the entire marudai in wood if you're confident in your skills. You can scale down the marudai at 75% for faster printer time and less material, with an infill of 5%. However, if you want more strength, you can adjust the infill to your preference. For the Tama (Bobin), use 100% infill to get the correct weight. Alternatively, print it with 0% infill and drill a hole to fill it with sand; the Tama should weigh 100g.
