Traditional Asian (Japan, China, Korea etc.) Rice Measuring Cup
thingiverse
This is the flagship item in an upcoming series of Asian measurement tools that I plan to start designing this year, 2019. 1 Gou is a traditional rice measuring unit designed for one meal serving one adult person. The unit shares a common ancient symbol with China, Japan, and Korea. It originated from classic Chinese units but was precisely defined by the Japanese during their Meiji era. Koreans adopted the Japanese system during their colonial modernization under Japan. 1 Gou(合) equals 180.39 ml in the ISO measurement system. It roughly translates to 150 grams of short-grain white rice. After cooking, the total mass increases to 330 grams, including the water content. Cooked short-grain white rice yields approximately 429 Calories in the human body. https://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/usda/white-rice-(short-grain-cooked)?portionid=62458&portionamount=330.000 For detailed history and definitions, refer to Japanese Wikipedia. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%90%88?fbclid=IwAR1S16laKz2-Ctrw71xTAxHlwYWLPBWsxT-t1b4TckasyPjBamQcNcmCU5M The design is a modern, uniquely Asian interpretation with a square handle large enough for two or three adult fingers. The overall aesthetic aligns with the trends of the 21st century. Best regards, Pao
