Toys for boys. Old boys use computers, small boys need other toys Well, we can get a pilot to enter port, we have access to holds, time for means of access from shore. On handy size or bigger vessels access is via accommodation ladder usually looking forward. The same design but looking aft is used to prepare combination ladder for pilot when freeboard exceeds 9m. But on small ships, or on terminals where is no place to lower down accomodation ladder, lightweight portable gangway is used. It is hooked on ship's rail. Length differs - on small ships 2-3m, on bigger 6,9,12m. Of course, something to step down on the deck is needed. Sometimes we have 2 pieces of gangway, different length, stowed between the holds or in front of superstructure. Why? Because mentioned terminals offers their own gangway for reasonable(?) price 700-800 USD/day (2 weeks salary for Ordinary Seaman) Here You have gangway with 3 lengths platform, stanchions and wheels and also ladder with rail. Sorry, no SWL tests and Class Society approval. When You use it, do not forget safety net, which should be placed under the gangway to prevent falling into the water. Choose required length of platform and glue wheels carriage on the bottom.
