Toys for boys. Old boys use computers, small boys need other toys. Back to hatch covers - we have : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4902888 - pontoon hatch covers, stackable, operated by small gantry crane on rails - simple, but not often used type, due to long time needed to open or close hatches https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5498823 - side rolling hatch covers, mostly used on panamax type vessels. Hatch breadth= 2*cover breadth= 50% hull breadth. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5533719 - rolling covers for barge Now chain or wire pulled rolling hatch covers, used not so long ago. Raised by hydraulic jacks (not implemented), pulled by chain powered by hydraulic motor. Here is simplified version. Covers during closing should be hooked to previous one (hooks not implemented - only pins at fore and aft of cover). Finally they are secured to the coaming with quick acting cleats. Adjusting the chain is other story - all the best. Length of cover (along the hatch) highly depends on height of the hatch. Usually 6-8 covers- here minimum (4). That's why guides are high. Added barge shell and deck with hatch I used to create it. Code included Coded in Template Shapes_Text //https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4863092 presentation of shapes and transformations in csv mode (OpenSCAD CSV) Enjoy!
