Toyota Replacement Door Catch
thingiverse
This is a replacement mechanism made specifically for a 2005 Prius, but it should fit most Toyotas from at least the mid 90's up to... new? Given that the replacement part for my car costs nearly $150 CAD, I thought this would be worth trying and the results are good! I have one installed on my driver door for testing with the rest to be replaced after a successful week of use. Look up videos online for instructions on replacing your door catch. You will need to use pieces from the original mechanism for this to work. I have only tested this on a Prius, but it should work for other Toyota vehicles (and maybe others as well, check the dimensions listed below). Stay tuned for updates including a step-by-step teardown and assembly. If you need a stronger part try increasing your perimeters until it prints solid. You may also want to try carbon fiber filaments which are much stiffer and stronger (upgrade your nozzle, hard material 0.6mm recommended, nozzleX from e3d works well). If that doesn't work message me and I can provide a file using thicker arms. Things to check before you start: - Bolt spacing on the door is 52mm - The detente rod has a 13mm x 8mm profile with detentes 4.5mm thick The parts you will need are: - the detente rod (requires cutting the old door catch in half with a zip disc) and mounting hardware from the original door catch. - 2x printable parts in a suitable material (tested and working well with ABS) - 2x M6x1.0 nuts To assemble install the nuts into their recesses. You may want to add a drop of Loctite or RTV sillicone to the outside of the nut to help retain it in it's cavity when removing. Insert the detente rod into the opening (with the hinged end toward the flat side of the spring arm) of one half with the cam lobe in a detente. Then place the other half on top and you're ready to install it in the vehicle. Note: This is a part to intended to replace a worn out, malfunctioning catch. Due to variables outside of my control it may not function as well as the original. Proper care and attention should be used to prevent damage or injury to yourself and others. I take no responsibility for damage or injury caused from the use of this part. If you are hoping to use this commercially message me for a licence release and royalty agreement.
