Starter Motor For Eric's - Toyota 22RE Engine This project starts with the Starter Motor System for Eric's Toyata 22RE Engine, and everything is still in the Research and Development stage. The SketchUp File is included so you can download it and modify it to suit your needs. The "Starter Motor Mount" and "Pinion Gear" are complete and fully adjustable. They have been printed multiple times to check for errors, but they still need covers and other cosmetic work to make them more realistic. A geared-down electric motor is needed for this project, which can be found on eBay or Amazon. It should be between 27mm and 30mm in diameter and about 60mm long with a 4mm "D" shaft. The "D" shaft is 12mm long, but there's actually a really common motor used in many things - make sure it has 20mm spacing for the mounting holes. My current motor is 12v -1000rpm, and I've included an update from June 7th, 2017: another user found success using a 540 motor to crank the engine over. Since I have a container full of 540 motors, there will be a 540 version available soon. The Pinion Gear is designed for a "D" Shaft in 3mm, 4mm, or 5mm sizing. Standard round shafts on electric motors are not good enough, even with a grub screw holding it in place, because when you tighten it up the plastic will crack. A "D" Shaft in plastic works perfectly, but if your motor has a round shaft, you'll need to file it down or put it in a vice and use masking tape for better grip. Wait until the Pinion Gear has cooled off completely before pushing it on, and make sure to work it slowly and carefully. If it's a tight fit like mine, there's no need to hold it in place - a drop of Liquid Nails would be better than a screw. I've included an XL hole version that's 0.4mm bigger than the shaft (4.4mm, 3.4mm, or 5.4mm), and you can print both sizes to see which one fits better. The "Starter Motor Plate" is 2.5mm thick and should be printed with 50% to 100% infill to prevent flexing, which could lead to stripping the pinion gear or jumping of the teeth. On September 4th, 2017, I updated the project by adding a 3mm and 3.5mm thick Starter Motor Mount Plate to reduce flexing and give the Flywheel less room to twist. Once the Electric Motor is installed and adjusted, you'll need to remove the screws that hold on the "Starter Motor Plate" and line up the Bell House with the "Starter Motor Plate" before bolting them back together. If you need different shaft hole sizes or mounting holes, just let me know, and I'll see what I can do. The SketchUp File is included in the download, but this project is still a work in progress - I hate the bright orange bar they use!
