Jet aircraft, typically fixed-wing planes, are propelled by jet engines, enabling them to fly faster and at greater altitudes than propeller-powered counterparts. These aircraft can reach heights of 10,000-15,000 meters where their jet engines operate optimally for long distances. In contrast, propeller engines achieve peak efficiency at lower altitudes. English inventor Frank Whittle conceived the idea of a jet engine in 1928, while Hans von Ohain independently developed it in Germany by the end of the 1930s. A. A. Griffith's July 1926 paper on compressors and turbines also warrants recognition for its contributions to jet technology development.
