Toy Car or Robot Wheel From Scotch Tape Spool
thingiverse
This part transforms discarded spools from Scotch tape rolls into functional components for making wheels. My students will utilize these wheels in various model cars, including the solar-powered vehicles they build that feature a photovoltaic cell on top. The OpenSCAD file is provided. The axle size has been chosen to match student kit axles, which coincidentally have the same diameter as 0.078" bicycle spokes. For added realism, tire rubber can be sourced from a slice of 26" bike inner tube, effectively creating a wide rubber band. By flipping it inside out, a smoother surface is achieved.
