This is a 3D laser surface scan of part of the left side of the lower jaw with 5 cheek teeth of Toxodon, collected in 1832 by Darwin. The fossil dates between 126,000 and 11,700 years old. This scan was created as part of the Museum’s Darwin Fossil Mammals digitisation project. Learn more at www.nhm.ac.uk/darwinsfossils. When describing this jaw, Owen considered whether to classify it in the same species as the type skull. What is Toxodon?
