Towing barge / peat boat / van Gogh's boat
thingiverse

Towing Barge
This barge is now a popular tourist attraction that has undergone modifications to serve as a guide vessel along canals, the historic city of Coevorden, and former peat lands in Northern Netherlands. Initially, it was an empty hull filled with cargo, mostly peat, and featured benches for passenger transport. A variety of boats were traditionally "powered" by women or children (see original images) who pulled them across the canal using ropes and long wooden beams. Later, horses took over the task, but nowadays a diesel engine handles all the work. This specific boat is identical to those used by Vincent van Gogh when he traveled from Hoogeveen to Nieuw Amsterdam, where he spent three months. Today, visitors can explore the room where Van Gogh stayed in Nieuw Amsterdam at the "van Gogh Huis," a museum/restaurant located in Drenthe province. In Dutch, this type of boat is known as a "Snikke." The Snikke called "Johannes Veldkamp" can often be seen near the "Van Gogh Huis," where it has one of Van Gogh's three landing stages. Printing Information: I have separated large STL components to make them suitable for printing on smaller machines. The original STL files remain available as well. Some parts require support during printing. After printing all pieces, use the provided images as a reference and assemble everything using CA glue.
