Tournament Size Chessmen
thingiverse
This is a tournament-sized set of chessmen designed from scratch using OpenSCAD software. To refine the output, I employed MS 3D Builder, which efficiently corrected errors in the generated STL file and converted the ASCII STL data from OpenSCAD to binary STL. The king stands approximately four inches tall, showcasing a unique blend of originality and recognizability. I aimed to strike a balance between aesthetic appeal and functionality, ensuring that each piece is both visually striking and practical for actual gameplay. In contrast, some chess set designs are remarkably enigmatic, despite their beauty. Two sets of files are available for download: hollow pieces with an interior void for weighting and solid pieces without this feature. A simple baseplate design is also included to facilitate the filling process for hollow pieces. If you prefer solid pieces, printing the baseplate is unnecessary. The wooden board featured in the images is not 3D printed; it measures about two and a quarter inches per square, which is an ideal size for these chessmen. For optimal results, use this or a similar-sized board with your set.
