Tougher Sundial Base With Nuts and Bolts
thingiverse
I appreciate the uncomplicated design but wish the angle was adjustable like the multipiece version. Unfortunately, my initial Sundial Base snapped off at an awkward angle, resulting in a thicker and more reinforced piece. Sundial Base 1 marked my first attempt, while Sundial Base 3 is an updated iteration. The big angle nut and bolt secure the first connector to the base via the lower hole. The side angle bolt doesn't utilize a nut; instead, it slides into one, functioning effectively. The receiver fits snugly into the small hole at the bottom of the gnomon, secured by an M5 screw. I'm still fine-tuning the threading, but if you pre-prepare the screw when the nut is warm, it should work out okay. Tasks Remaining: ------- Update the base to feature longer and more widely spaced legs that won't interrupt the shadow as much; add a half moon to the top part of the base and an additional screw hole. DONE ----- Improve the large screw thread for better performance.
