Tough Pebble

This little pebble can take it! A combination of materials and detailed shapes brings out the possibilities of 3D printing. Soft rubber strap cushions impact and fasten the pebble shut and provides sealing. Colors of yellow and black give a sturdy feel and create a strong impression. The Design was done with Onshape CAD software and rendering with Blender and mechanical simulations with Simscale. The design progressed from simple boolean operations to simulations which showed how to better protect the pebble from impacts. The rubber was added to the edges and also used as a strap to close the two halves of the pebble. Finally, a seal ring was added between the two halves. Few renders with impacts and water droplets provided the final result. The design depicts the possibilities to use Stratasys gives to the designer to manufacture unique and versatile designs by applying multiple materials, colors, and textures into a single object creating a whole new field of exciting engineering.
