Touch Probe
thingiverse
A highly innovative "Renishaw" style touch probe made largely through 3D printing technology. Detailed design and construction information can be found here: http://tomhorsley.com/hardware/solidoodle/solidoodle-renishaw.html I'm still uncertain about the probe's performance, as I have yet to come up with a suitable probe to attach and interface it with my printer. This project utilizes all concepts from thing 94169, but all parts are made using 3D printing methods. Update: Using aluminum binding posts was a mistake. Aluminum oxidizes too easily; within a few days after buffing them to make good contact, problems start arising again. I need to find alternative components and rebuild the central part with new posts. A revised version has been uploaded, featuring an alt_ball component instead of the original post_ball. The alt_ball boasts a smaller hole for securely holding a piece of heavy-duty bare copper ground wire, which seems to work far better than aluminum binding posts.
