Pirata is a toucan that was rescued due to its broken beak, wing, and missing eye - hence the name. The Brasília Zoo requested assistance in providing Pirata with a more comfortable life in captivity. We decided to create a beak prosthesis. To do so, we followed these steps: 1. Scanned the toucan's skull, which was kindly provided by the zoo museum. 2. Designed and 3D printed a mold for the broken beak using FDM printing technology. This mold was used to cast a plaster copy of the damaged area, ensuring accurate positioning. 3. Used RealityCapture photogrammetry software to scan the plaster copy of the beak. 4. Created a custom design tailored to Pirata's specific needs. 5. Printed the prosthesis using transparent resin and attached it with red epoxy resin for added security. This allowed us to visually inspect any gaps between the beak and the prosthesis. For more information, contact thiago.hirano@gmail.com.
