toucan beak prosthesis
thingiverse
"Pirata" is toucan that was rescued with a broken beak, broken wing and without a eye(that's why the name). The Zoo of Brasília asked for help to gave him more comfortable life in captive. So we decide to make a beak prosthesis. 1. Scan of toucan skull(the zoo museum helped us with that); (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4501205) 2. Pre-desing and FDM printing of the mold(in red in the pictures). We casted a copy of the broken gnatoteca in plaster with this mold to ensure the right positioning. 3. Photogrammetry of the casted copy of the gnatoteca using RealityCapture; 4. Final design with custom fit for "Pirata"; 5. Resin printing and fit testing. We made it with a transparent material and the fixation was made with a red pigmented epoxy resin. That way we could see the filling of the spaces between the beak and the prosthesis For more information: thiago.hirano@gmail.com
