This part is designed specifically for the Toto trip handle found in models like the CST853 toilet. Over time, the handle wears down and the metal that comes into contact with the flush arm begins to break. As a result, the trip handle becomes stuck, keeping the flapper from closing properly. Whether or not the fix works depends on whether the metal is completely broken or still has some integrity. This part is a reinforced plastic ring intended to fortify the weakened metal piece that may have snapped off its flange and bent outward. This allows the flush arm to get stuck in the gap left behind. By using this part, you can repair your trip handle without having to replace it entirely. I was able to fix my issue with this part and avoided spending $20 on a new trip handle and arm. However, I'm unsure how long this repair will last. Since there's no way to know for certain if all CST853 trip handles are identical, your results may vary when using this solution. The broken flange on my trip handle measures 8mm by 15mm.
