cults3d
This exquisite marble sculpture is estimated to have been crafted sometime between the 1st and 2nd century AD, unearthed near Banias in Syria. The statuette depicts Marsyas, the satyr, being subjected to brutal torture. The original statue, with numerous replicas scattered across the globe (also uploaded to Scan The World and MyMiniFactory), is part of a larger group piece that has since been lost. By his side stands Apollo, the god, actively participating in the torment as a slave holds a syrinx, a musical instrument, while cutting Marsyas with it. This remarkable group was created around 200 years BC, showcasing the artistic prowess of its ancient creators.
