Tortilla/Taco press

CountertopChallenge This challenge pushes your dough for homemade tacos, tortillas, and chips for salsa to the limit. I took on this challenge to make my own equipment and discovered this contest in the process. The pictures shown are from a proof-of-concept print, printed at the lowest quality settings available. The files ending with "V2" represent version 2 of the project. Although I did not test or print the second version, I made some minor adjustments to these files. The first version works well but requires a slight tweak at the hinges. There's more room around the hinges in the base unit and instead of a round handle, a rectangular one is used for the entire handle. This change makes it easier to press. I don't own a 3D printer but I'd like to thank the Fayetteville Free Library for allowing me to use their equipment. The files can be found at http://www.fflib.org/make/fab-lab. To make your tacos, consider using this project on Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:704856. Instructions The base unit is the bottom section and the top goes on the lower hinge while the handle attaches to the top hinge. I added supports for the top and handle as a precautionary measure. The base didn't need any support because of its size. As with all prints, I used rafts for every item in this project. When it comes to the Replicator 2's print quality, I found that the lowest quality settings were sufficient for my proof-of-concept model. If you plan on making this project, I recommend checking if the base and handle will fit on your print bed without being too large. On a Makerbot Replicator 2, try scaling all items to 110% if they won't fit comfortably. Another recommendation is applying food-grade enamel paint in two coats for extra protection. Note: I've made changes to the files multiple times during this project and currently have two versions of the handle and base. The untested second version has V2 at the end of each file name; please only print one or the other, as version 2 hasn't been thoroughly tested yet.
