This muscular body is to be understood as a representation of the gigantic hero Ajax, one of the Greek fighters before Troy. Ajax sits on a panther skin, which symbolizes his frenzy, and ponders with the naked sword in his right hand, with which he will give himself death, his fate after. Work by Apollonios from Athens after a Hellenistic model from around 150 BC.
