myminifactory
Soon after its discovery, this sculpture was identified as Psyche, meaning "soul" in ancient Greek. Now believed to represent Aphrodite, it draws inspiration from the iconic Aphrodite of Knidos. Dating back to the first century BC, this Roman work is a replica of a Hellenistic original attributed to the renowned sculptor Scopas. Found badly mutilated in the Capua amphitheatre, its "scalped" head remains an enigmatic fascination for those who gaze upon it.
