The iconic marble sculpture depicts the agile messenger god Hermes, originally a part of the majestic Parthenon, and it was this very work that sparked the creation of The Falling Man from Rodin's masterpiece, The Gates of Hell. The artist marveled at the nuanced twist in the body of the god, whose head, now unfortunately missing, once gazed back over his shoulder with a sense of urgency.
