Torso of Brahmanical ascetic at the Guimet museum, Paris
myminifactory
This is a torso of Brahma from Uttar Pradesh. Brahmā, the Hindu god of creation and one of the Trimurti, is also known as Vishnu and Shiva. The Brahma Purana tells us he's the father of Manu, and all human beings are descended from Manu. In the Ramayana and Mahabharata, he's often referred to as the progenitor or great grandsire of all human beings. He should not be confused with the Supreme Cosmic Spirit in Hindu Vedānta philosophy known as Brahman, which is genderless. Brahmā's wife is Saraswati, also known by names like Sāvitri and Gayatri. She has taken different forms throughout history. Brahmā is often identified with Prajapati, a Vedic deity. As the husband of Saraswati or Vaac Devi (the Goddess of Speech), Brahma is also known as "Vaagish," meaning "Lord of Speech and Sound." This object is part of the project "Scan The World". "Scan The World" is a non-profit initiative by MyMiniFactory, creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access.
