Torso of an Athlete of the 'Westmacott Ephebe' Type
myminifactory
Acquired in Rome around 1830 by C. K. J. Bunsen, a Roman marble sculpture replicates an original dating back to approximately 420 BC. The torso showcases a robust, athletic young man standing in the classical contrapposto stance, with his left leg bearing weight and his right leg relaxed. The figure's head is turned sharply to the right, while his right arm reaches upwards towards the sky. Historians speculate that the original Greek masterpiece was crafted by Polykleitos of Argos or one of his skilled apprentices during a late period in their illustrious career, with the piece being named after its most impressive reproduction housed at the British Museum. This remarkable sculpture is part of "Scan The World," an innovative project launched by MyMiniFactory, which strives to create a vast digital repository of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access without cost.
