Torso of a High General

This statue's short kilt and powerful stride are preferred for statues of top officials during the fourth century, specifically selected to evoke the revered tradition dating back to the Old Kingdom. The owner's name is unfortunately erased, but the lengthy inscription reveals that this individual held a prestigious general's rank, overseeing projects in Busiris and overseeing restorations at Abydos following damage inflicted by "foreign invaders", likely referencing the Persian occupation. Archaeological and inscriptional records confirm significant works undertaken at Abydos during dynasty 30, while the statue's robust chest muscles and distinctive style strongly suggest a creation date within this time period, possibly even during Nectanebo I's reign (380-343 b.c.), implying that the inscription might be a genuine account from a high-ranking military officer.
