Torso of a Hellenistic Ruler or Hero
myminifactory
Acquired in 1897 in Venice from Giustiniani collection Marble Roman after original around 160 - 140 BC The muscular body stands out starkly as the folds of the cloak draped over the left arm and shoulder dramatically accentuate its nakedness. The outstretched right arm may have once grasped a horse by its headcollar or a sceptre, posing a heroic figure. A Hellenistic king could have been similarly depicted.
