The Cavallaro Tower of Gioiosa Marina was also called the Borraca Tower or Spina Tower in the past, and is now mainly known as the Cavallaro Tower or Cavalier's Tower. Officially, the Tower is considered a 16th-century fortress, but its foundation dates back to the Byzantine era in a cylindrical shape, tapered at its upper half, built with ordinary masonry in lime and rubble stone.
