Torre del Rocadillo - Carteia
sketchfab
Tower built in the 16th century that formed part of coastal defense systems constructed by Philip II and his successors, following a model inherited from the Andalusian era. Significantly, it stands in the area of the site closest to the sea, which until recently was also the end of the Rocadillo estate; hence its name. Raising over the remains of Carteia's wall, like this one, it controlled the Guadarranque mouth at a good spot for anchoring until the late silting up of this area by the river's own sediments. The coastal watch line to which this tower belonged reached seven more beacons in Gibraltar's Field, with only this Rocadillo and Entrerríos towers preserved today.
