The Torre de Aragón is a medieval fortress situated atop a hill within a sprawling defensive complex located in Molina de Aragón, Guadalajara, Spain. This tower stands tall above the valley carved out by the Gallo river, commanding a strategic position that remained valuable as late as the 19th century. As a result, it was rebuilt for military purposes, showcasing its enduring importance. Towering over the medieval city of Molina de Aragón, this fortress is an integral part of one of Spain's most extensive and well-preserved medieval defensive systems today. During the Middle Ages, the city held significant strategic value due to its position on the border between the Kingdoms of Castilla and Aragón. Built upon the remnants of a preceding Islamic stronghold, the Torre de Aragón was constructed with a pentagonal design to bolster its resistance against artillery attacks, particularly from catapults. This architectural feature served as a testament to the ingenuity of medieval engineers seeking to fortify their defenses against the escalating threat posed by advanced siege engines.
