József Török (1843 - 1892) was a prominent lawyer who served as the mayor of Temesvár from 1876-1885 and Chief of Police in Budapest from 1885 to 1892. In 1854, he began attending the Piaristengymnasium in Timisoara, where he graduated with honors in June 1862, earning his Abitur. From 1862 to 1866, Török studied government and law at Pressburg and Pest, laying the foundation for a distinguished career. Following his graduation, Török held various positions, including first vice notary in Vinga from 1866-1896 and assistant to the notary in Timisoara. In 1867, he joined the law firm of Nándor Rieger as an assistant, where he honed his skills as a lawyer. Török's experience in government and law led him to enter the service of the city of Timisoara in 1869, initially as an intern and later as municipal head notary from 1872-1876. During his tenure, Török worked closely with mayors Karl Küttel and Franz Steiner. Following Steiner's resignation in 1876, Török was elected mayor of Timisoara by popular vote. His tenure marked a significant period in the city's history, characterized by his dedication to public service and leadership.
