Toroidal CVT
grabcad
Extroid CVT uses toroidal or roller-based designs where discs and rollers transmit power between them. The discs resemble conical parts with dished sides filling a torus hole. One disc is input, another output; rollers adjust ratios and transfer power. At perpendicular axis, they contact at same diameters, giving 1:1 ratio. By moving along the axis, varying angles maintain contact, resulting in distinct diameters and non-1:1 ratios. Full toroidal systems are most efficient while partial ones may require torque converters, reducing efficiency. Some infinitely variable and reversible thrust direction systems exist within this CVT type.
